Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL), A Mapúa School congratulates the MCL ETYCB students who won as champions in the 2022 PCCI Business Idea Award – Food Business Category.

Last September 23, 2022, Malayan Colleges Laguna, A Mapúa School’s students from the E.T. Yuchengco College of Business won the Business Idea and Development Award (BIDA) in the Food Business Category. Students from the B.S. Entrepreneurship and B.S. Business Administration program namely Christian Gavasan, Isabelle Rose Maniclang, Christelle Eve Taclas, and Abegail Vicuńa with their coach, Asst. Prof. Donn Enrique Moreno were able to take home the champion title for their award-winning food business idea called “Fourtipuff”.

BIDA is an annual national business plan competition sponsored by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).  It aims to develop and promote creative Filipino entrepreneurs. This year’s BIDA theme was “Innovative Solutions for the New Business Environment.”

With MCL ETYCB bringing home the champion title this year, the college has already achieved a three-year consecutive win at BIDA. When the 2022 champions were asked about this achievement, Isabelle Rose Maniclang, the team’s leader said, “We know that we need to defend this para ma-retain namin ‘yung title [as champions].” Christian Gavasan also mentioned that “It was really an exciting [and] at the same time nerve-wracking [experience]. Simply because our predecessors are two-year consecutive champions, so we don’t want to disappoint them by losing.”
When asked about their inspiration for joining the national contest, Abegail Vicuña said, “Pinanghawakan ko po ‘yung sinabi ni Sir Donn samin na hindi lang siya nagtuturo but nagbibigay rin siya ng opportunity sa students to learn outside the four corners of the classroom.”

For other Malayans who also want to join contests that will expose them to real-world applications in their field of studies, Christelle Eva Taclas said, “Take the opportunity pag binigay na sayo. [It’s a] once in a lifetime opportunity na binibigay sa students.” For MCL ETYCB students who will be joining BIDA next year, Isabelle gave advice which is to always trust their teammates and their coach.

Prof. Donn Enrique Moreno, the coach of the three BIDA Champions mentioned in an interview that Winning for three consecutive years in a National Business Plan Competition is a testament of being true to our mission of transforming our students into globally competitive professionals.” As to why he encourages the students to join these contests, he said that “Learning never stops within the four corners of the classroom. They (the students) need to go outside and experience the real-world application of the theories and concepts.”
