In adherence to the Presidential Proclamation No. 1365 series of 2007, the Association of Chemical Engineering Students - Malayan Colleges Laguna (ACES-MCL) as one of the Junior Chapters of the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PIChE) celebrates the 15th Chemical Engineering Week in the Philippines this September.
Every year, the chemical engineering profession is being celebrated globally to recognize their excellence and competitiveness in the industry. It is a fact that chemical engineers have broad knowledge about industrial procedures necessary to be efficient and dominant in the growing demand of the economy, which is why in 2007, the government through former President Gloria Macapacal Arroyo signed Proclamation No. 1365 that declares every third week of September as the Chemical Engineering Week in the country. It is the policy of the State to supervise and regulate the practice of chemical engineering to ensure that the nation’s chemical engineers are world-class, internationally recognized, and globally competitive. The proclamation also states the significant contribution of chemical engineers in various fields to create public awareness on their critical role in the country.
In parallel with the different activities that PIChE has come up with, the ACES-MCL organized its own celebration of the 15th ChE Week, to be held this September 14 to 19, 2020.
Following the theme "ChEmmunity: Emphasizing the Role of Chemical Engineers towards Economic Recovery and Safety," the ACES-MCL has an objective with their event to foster sportsmanship, camaraderie, and unity between chemical engineering students even with the difficulties presented by the current global COVID-19 pandemic. The celebration also aims to encourage the students to be socially active by demonstrating the ability to consider multiple perspectives and provide them with a deeper understanding of their academic and career path.
In line with this, ACES-MCL prepared a series of activities, the first of which is the Undergraduate Chemical Engineering Symposium (UChES), which will help future chemical engineers develop their intellectual curiosity and provide better insights regarding their chosen career path. Another event included is the Chemical Engineering Sports (ChESports), which is calibrated to imbibe social skills as they enjoy the friendly competition with their friends and fellow ChE students. Lastly is the Online Jamming, for skilled ChE students to develop a sense of belongingness and to showcase their amazing talents.
To celebrate ACES-MCL's 10th year anniversary as a duly accredited organization of Malayan Colleges Laguna, the group partnered with Wordtext Systems Inc., a value added distributor of Autodesk software in the Philippines to conduct a three-day webinar with the objective to further enhance the skills of current and future engineers of MCL in the field of design and manufacturing.
Topics for the webinar and training series involve Autodesk Product Design & Manufacturing on Generative Design Workflow, Mechanical Design Workflow and Product Data Management (PDM) using the Autodesk Ecosystem. It will be held every Saturday at 1:00-3:00 PM, from September 12-26, 2020 via Blackboard Collaborate and shall be spearheaded by Mr. Marc Jaye Genoza, an Autodesk Technical Specialist. The faculty, students and alumni of the institution are all invited to join. Those interested may send a message to the ACES-MCL Facebook page.
