MCL CAS Student Council holds Art in Isolation webinar series
Malayan Colleges Laguna's (MCL) College of Arts and Science (CAS) Student Council successfully hosted the first episode of "Art in Isolation: An Artist's Contribution in Times of Global Crisis" on their Facebook page last April 17, 2020.
In lieu of their college week, the Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) College of Arts and Science (CAS) Student Council organized a webinar series titled "Art in Isolation: An Artist’s Contribution in Times of Global Crisis," with the pilot episode airing last April 17, 2020.
The effort was spearheaded by CAS faculty members Ms. Jaimie Lynn Alano-Borromeo (CAS Student Council Adviser), and Mr. Gerald Saavedra (Faculty Volunteer). Supervised by Prof. Eva Marie Pedregosa (B.A. Communication Program Chair) and CAS Dean Ma. Rovilla Sudaprasert, Art in Isolation aimed to educate students on how they can contribute as artists during a crisis. With the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) still in place due to the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), the webinar series serves as an alternative learning platform where they can acquire industry-based knowledge from individuals in the field of arts, marketing, and other related branch of studies.
The first guest speaker for the pilot episode of Art in Isolation: Mr. Paul Alexei Basinillo, a known Director for films, concerts, TV commercials, music videos, and events.
With the livestream reaching over 9,000 people, and with more than 5,000 views, the first episode of Art in Isolation featured guest speaker Mr. Paul Alexei Basinillo, a Director for films, concerts, TV commercials, music videos, and events presently working freelance for big brands such as Smart, Apple, Globe, Jollibee, and Coke. Also speaking for the first episode was Mr. JC Gellidon, a Manila-based filmmaker and photographer affiliated with prestigious brands such as Fujifilm Philippines, Zhiyun PH, Hollyland & Deity Microphones Asia.
"Supposedly, this part of the school year is allotted for our college week. The CAS Student Council already prepared everything needed for the event, from the publication materials, merchandise samples, and even the lineup of activities. Unfortunately, due to unprecedented circumstances that we're still experiencing, we are unable to execute all our plans," shared B. Multimedia Arts student Jabesh Emmanuel M. Amador, Event Head for Art in Isolation.
The second speaker for the first episode of Art in Isolation: Mr. JC Gellidon, a Manila-based filmmaker and photographer; with host Therese Marie Macasaet, a B.A. Communication student.
"A few days into the lockdown, Mr. Saavedra opened the idea of doing something for the students during the quarantine period. The council didn’t have any second thoughts and immediately drafted an activity wherein students of the College of Arts and Science can learn industry-related skill sets and learn from practitioners while staying at home."
The council outsourced the speakers, influencers, and host Therese Marie Macasaet, a B.A. Communication student, to join the event. Having seen the overwhelming number of viewers, the team also took the opportunity for the webinar series to become a platform for a donation drive titled "Hiraya: An Artistic Vision to Help the Frontliner".
The next episodes for Art in Isolation are scheduled to air on May 1, 8, and 15, 2020 on the MCL CAS Student Council Facebook page.
