MCL hosts 2018 PIChE National Student Congress

Chemical Engineering students from all over the country gathered at Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) last February 21 for the 2018 Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PIChE) National Student Congress.

In parallel with the 79th Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PIChE) Annual National Convention, Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL), with its Chemical Engineering Department spearheading, hosted the 2018 PIChE National Student Congress last February 21.

Among the guests was PIChE National President, Engr. Jonathan Aquino, ASEAN Engr.

Present in the event were PIChE National President Engr. Jonathan Aquino, ASEAN Eng.; the Board of Directors of PIChE – National and PIChE – Laguna Chapter; as well as visitors and participants from University of the Philippines – Diliman, University of the Philippines – Los Baños, University of Santo Tomas, Adamson University, Ateneo de Davao, Batangas State University, Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod, De La Salle University, Mapua University, University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos, University of Saint La Salle, Technological Institute of the Philippines – Manila, University San Agustin – Iloilo, Saint Louis University, and Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology.

Delegates from the abovementioned schools competed in the Congress’s two (2) events: the National Quiz Bowl and the Undergraduate Research Contest.

“Congratulations to all the participants of the 2018 PIChE National Student Congress! We have successfully met our objective: building camaraderie and connections among Chemical Engineering students from different universities nationwide. In a few years’ time, you will be joining the pool of professional Chemical Engineers in creating a sustainable society and pushing this nation to economic stability and supremacy,” addressed Engr. Jesuniño R. Aquino, overall Chair of 2018 PIChE National Student Congress and Program Chair of MCL’s B.S. Chemical Engineering.

1st Runner-Up: Optimization of the Photocatalytic Conversion of CO2 to Methanol Fuel Using Copper and Carbon-Doped TiO2 Nanoparticles (University of the Philippines - Diliman)
2nd Runner-Up: Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles from Waste Radiographic Films using Starch-Gelatin as Polymeric Capping Agent (University of the Philippines - Diliman)
