HUMSS student wins Mutya ng Dolores 2017

An American golfer named Patty Berg once said that “desire, dedication, determination, concentration, and the will to win” are what make a champion. The same can be applied to Joanna Marie “Jaja” M. Aguila, a Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) student, as she vied for the Mutya ng Dolores 2017 crown on April 27, outshining other contenders. Aside from being the Mutya ng Dolores, Jaja also won awards for Ms. Photogenic, Ms. Personality, Best in Swimwear, Best in Production Number, and for earning the Most Hearts on Facebook.

Currently residing in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, Jaja and her mother would travel to Quezon every day to attend trainings, which were physically dreadful. Still, Jaja’s perseverance kept her up.

The perseverance that she showed during the pre-pageant earned her the Ms. Personality award. “Sa lahat ng candidates, ako yung nakita nila na hindi nag-iinarte, though umiyak kaming lahat dahil sa sakit ng katawan. Paano pa ako na galing pang Sta. Rosa.

She even recalled the reason why she probably didn’t give up during the entire Mutya ng Dolores process. “Noong 2014 sumali ako ng pageant and in-expect ko na mananalo ako. I ended up as 1st runner-up. ’Di ako nagkulang sa lahat ng performance ko dun. Iyak ako nang iyak. Sabi ko ‘Sana sa susunod may crown na’,” she shared.

However, her participation in Mutya ng Dolores was unplanned since she was initially preparing for Rosas ng Sta. Rosa. Her reason for not choosing the latter over the former? The people from Dolores came to her and invited her to join the pageant. As a lady whose family is originally from the said province, she couldn’t turn down the offer.

When asked why she thinks she won the pageant, she answered “Kasi passion ko talaga siya.”

Jaja has plans to join more pageant opportunities in the future, but as for now, she wants to take a break from serious trainings to focus on her studies.
