Random Drug Testing to be held at MCL


In furtherance of the government’s efforts to promote a “drug-free campus”, Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) implements pertinent drug education and prevention programs and activities, particularly random drug testing. This is pursuant to the following government regulations:

1. Department of Education (DepEd) Order 40, Series of 2017;
2. Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Order 64, Series of 2017
3. Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Board Regulation No. 6, Series of 2003 as amended by DDB Board Regulation No. 3, Series of 2009

The aforementioned regulations state that drug test for secondary and tertiary level students is mandatory to all schools. However, the conduct of actual testing shall be random and the following shall be observed in its implementation:

1. The tests are primarily for prevention and rehabilitation purposes;
2. Personal privacy and dignity of students shall be respected; and
3. The results shall be treated with utmost confidentiality, and not to be used in any criminal proceedings.

In this regard, there will be at least two random drug tests to be conducted throughout the School year 2018 involving SHS and College level students, and MCL employees in compliance with the said government regulations. A Drug Testing Selection Committee headed by the Director for Student Affairs (formerly Student Services) is tasked to randomly select who will undergo drug testing when they are conducted.
