  The MCL Cup 2009 formally ended with a pompous awarding ceremony last November 26, 2009 at the Francisco Balagtas Auditorium. The winners of the 10 scholastic contests were given their respective awards. The Sisters of Mary School (SOM)-Boystown was once again crowned as this year’s over-all champion. This is their third straight over-all plum in the 4 year old MCL Cup. The school received a trophy and P30,000 in cash. The 1st runner up was St. Scholastica’s College Westgrove, and 2nd runner up was the Sisters of Mary School - Girlstown. They also received trophies, P20,000 and P10,000, respectively.  
     
 
 
     
   
   
  St. Scholastica’s College – Westgrove  emerged victorious in MCL Cup Speech Choir Competition held last November 26, 2009, at the Francisco Balagtas Auditorium. Meanwhile, Sisters of Mary School -Boystown and Canossa College - San Pablo, won 1st and 2nd runners-up respectively.  
     
 
 
     
   
  Don Bosco College tops  Brainmasters 2009  
  Don Bosco College ruled this year’s MCL Cup Brainmasters when its team composed of Juan Gabriel Lopez, Mico Galang and Jae-Riz Agbuya, beat the representatives of the other 20 schools during the trivia quiz challenge held last November 24, 2009 at the Francisco Balagtas Auditorium. The contestants had to hurdle questions in the fields of general information, local and global politics, society, business, events, I.T. news, and world history and civilization. The other winners were Holy Rosary College, first runner-up; and Pedro Guevarra Memorial National High School which the bagged the second runner-up slot.  
     
 
 
     
   
   
  Christ the King School of Cabuyao literally soared high above the other contestants in the 2009 Cheerdance Competition last November 21, at the MCL Track Oval. The team’s breath-taking tosses, well-timed steps, and vibrant energy catapulted them to 1st place. Second place went to St. Scholastica’s College- Westgrove, while Sisters of Mary School – Boystown won third place.  Nine schools participated in this year’s competition.
 
     
 
 
     
   
   
  Saint Thomas Academy rocked its way to victory in the 2009 MCL Cup Battle of the Bands last November 20 at the MCL Open Gardens.  Their interpretation of the popular OPM song “Lilipad” made them champions in this annual competition.  Second place went to Liceo de San Pedro, while South Hill School Inc. got third place.  Ten schools from all over the region joined the contest.  
     
 
 
     
   
  SOM-Boystown adds Math Wizard crown  
  The Sisters of Mary School (SOM) – Boystown added another trophy to their collection as they win the 2009 Math Wizard Competition yesterday, November 19, at the Francisco Balagtas Hall. This is Boystown’s third championship in the month-long MCL Cup. They also have a second-place trophy in the Culinary Challenge, and a third-place finish in the Science Wizards.  
     
 
 
     
   
   
  South Hill School Inc. snatched the championship in an exciting, photo-finish race over its competitors in the MCL Cup Science Wizard Competition last November 18, 2009, at the Francisco Balagtas Auditorium.  Santa Rosa Science and Technology High School and The Sisters of Mary School - Boystown emerged as the 2nd and 3rd placers, respectively.   
     
 
 
     
   
   
  The Sisters of Mary School (SOM) – Girlstown has once again emerged victorious in another MCL Cup 2009 event. Bagging the 1st place award in the Spelling Quiz Bee last November 17, SOM – Girlstown now has a total of two 1st place titles. The other one is from the Culinary Challenge last November 13.
 
     
 
 
     
   
  Sisters of Mary Schools Reign Supreme in the MCL CUP 2009 Mural Competition  
  Sisters of Mary Schools (SOM) displayed their brilliance anew as they took 1st and 2nd places of the 2009 MCL Cup Mural Competition last Saturday, November 14, at South Point Road, Cabuyao, Laguna. The team of artists from SOM-Boystown was crowned champions, while SOM-Girlstown brought home the 2nd place trophy. San Lorenzo School placed third.  
     
 
 
     
   
   
  The Sisters of Mary School - Girlstown topped the 2009 Culinary Challenge last November 13, at the E.T. Yuchengco Hall.  Another Sisters of Mary School, the Boystown, took second place.  Meanwhile, third place went to Maquiling School Inc.  
     
 
 
     
   
   
  Muntinlupa Science High School won the championship in the 2009 MCL Cup Choral Competition. The Sisters of Mary School Boystown won second place, while St. Scholastica’s College Westgrove placed third.  
     
 
 
     
   
   
  As part of Malayan Colleges Laguna’s dedication to carry out its social responsibility program, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the Community Service and Relations Office (CSRO) brewed up a symposium on the global issue of Climate Change with UN Transfer of Knowledge Through Expatriate Nationals (TOKTEN) consultant Dr. Luisito A.   MCL and PTC Launch Relief Mission at Barangay Landayan, San Pedro, Laguna before Typhoon “Santi” Slams Laguna  
  The Community Service and Relations Office (CSRO) of Malayan Colleges Laguna has once again responded to the need of the times as it launched another relief mission for the ill-fated residents of Barangay Landayan in San Pedro, Laguna which is up to now suffering from waist level flood almost a month after typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng hit Luzon.  
     
 
 
     
   
   
     
  As part of the Lingkod Bayan, a project launched by the Community Service and Relations Office (CSRO) for the victims of the typhoon “Ondoy”,  Malayan Colleges Laguna joined The Philippine Star in its relief mission in Cabuyao.

  The Center for Student Development (CSD) organized a half-day seminar entitled, “The Faculty Role in Academic Achievement” last September 17, 2009 with Dr. Imelda V.G. Villar, the President of the Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association (PGCA) and the Association of Psychological and Educational Counselors of Asia-Pacific (APECA) as resource speaker.

Aug. 21, 2009 marked a day to be remembered for several MCL employees.  Professors, Jefferson Alcantara, Allan Alinea, Michael Baylon, Christie Comia, John Eric Ferrer, Remilyn Mondez, Angelito Platino, Arlene Rosal, and Christian Paulo Sison, together with several administrative staff, Carina Adanza, Clarence Del Castillo, Josephine Capito, Maria Paz Collado, and Ma. The members of the Yuchengco Group of Companies (YGC) have been known for their high regard to the Filipino national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal. It is for this reason that its large corporate members are named after the great national hero and Great Malayan.   Malayan Football Club (MFC) Won 3rd Place in the 5th Laguna 5 Futsal Tournament  
  Last August 1, 2009, the Malayan Football Club (MFC) joined the 5th Laguna 5 Futsal Tournament (Men’s Division) and won third place.  The tournament was hosted by the UPLB Football Varsity in cooperation with the Laguna Football Association.      
     
 
 
     
   
   
 

True to MCL’s commitment to its motto of “Excellence and Virtue”, the institution prioritizes forming MCL students into becoming socially responsible and responsive to the needs of the community. Keeping this mission alive, the Office of the Prefect of Students headed by Prof. Clarence Darro Del Castillo tapped the Community Service and Relations Office (CSRO) and the Community Leaders Circle- the official volunteers’ organization of Malayan Colleges Laguna to organize a training workshop for officers and leaders of different recognized student organizations of MCL.

 
     
 
 
     
   
   
 

The Center for National Service Training Program (NSTP) has accommodated 1709 students for NSTP-011: Introduction to National Service Training Program. To conveniently service the students for the NSTP, the Center deployed NSTP-011 to E-Learning. he MCL 2nd Foundation Week celebration was concluded with the Mr. and Ms. MCL pageant held at the MCL Auditorium on Friday, January 23, 2009 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Last 16 December 2008, the College Student Councils of Malayan Colleges Laguna organized a jam-packed Christmas party for the students which featured the Malayan Hip-hop Street Battle ’08 and the Otaku Christmas Cosplay.
