Last 21 August 2008, the MCL community experienced the enchanting performances of fifteen (15) Malayan Idol Finalists at the Francisco Balagtas Auditorium. The Malayan Idol hopefuls were Ms. Lou Acee C. Algabre, Mr. Ronel John M. Bartolazo, Ms. Fatima Yssaline V. Eguia, Mr. Kristoffer Denis G. Gonzales, Ms. Elreen Joy G. Gimutao, Mr. Enrico R. Hernandez, Ms. Rhoan A. Lomeda, Mr. Geronimo A. Lomeda Jr., Ms. Jessica Cheska I. Lopez, Mr. Samuel M. Mangubat, Ms. Jomie Elaine H. Monedo, Mr. Jhoenel A. Marquez, Ms. Cindy A. Villanueva, Mr. Bruce T. Rodriguez, and Mr. Justin Joseph D. Cruz. Faithful to the “Idol” format, the performers were judged by Prof. Henry L. Paz, Prof. Raymond B. Monterey, and Ms. Carla Mae C. Isla. However, the winner of the contest was the idol hopeful who received the most number of votes from 5:30 PM of August 21 until 3:00 PM of the next day. Supported by 1,693 text votes, Mr. Ronel John M. Bartolazo (from the College of IT), was declared as the first Malayan Idol. He received a glass trophy as well as gift items from SMART.
