St. Scholastica’s College- Westgrove Concludes MCL Cup 2010 with an Outstanding Performance
St. Scholastica’s College-Westgrove won MCL Cup 2010’s Speech Choir Competition last Nov. 20, with their sparkling display of verve, wit, fluency, and “techsitivity,” placing the Sisters of Mary School – Boystown and Mater Ecclesiae School at 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Muntinlupa Science High School blew away the audience again with their riveting performance during the MCL Cup 2010 – Choir Competition last November 19. The Muntinlupa Science Highschool was also the champion of last year’s MCL Cup Choir Competition, and this year, they proved that they deserve the top spot with their combination of graceful and apt interpretative movements with harmonious blending of voices.
The Sisters of Mary School (SOM) – Boystown still owns the title of the MCL Cup 2010 Mural Painting Contest which was held last Thursday, November 18 along the South Point Road, Cabuyao, Laguna. With over more than twenty schools that participated in the event, the team of Sisters of Mary – Girlstown bagged the second place and Pedro Guevarra Memorial High school came in third.

The Sisters of Mary - Boystown proved the myth about girls being better with words than boys wrong when they outspelled the contestants of Mater Ecclesiae School and St. Scholastica’s College Westgrove in the final round of MCL Cup 2010’s Spelling Quiz Bee last Nov. 16. Mater Ecclesiae and St. Scolastica emerged 1st and 2nd placers respectively in the said event held at the Francisco Balagtas Auditorium. The deciding word – “edelweiss.”

SOUTHERNSIDE MONTESSORI SCHOOL (SMS) was held victorious in the first ever Dance Competition of the MCL Cup held at the Francisco Balagtas Auditorium last November 15, Monday. The group’s guts to perform a contemporary style, smoothly combining jazz and ballet in a number that exudes grace and unity of movements, bagged them the title. They sure set a high standard for the upcoming years of this competition.
Christ the King School of Cabuyao Does It Again!
Christ the King School of Cabuyao (CKSC) has once again emerged victorious in the MCL Cup 2010’s Cheerdance Competition last November 13, Saturday, at the MCL Track Oval. The squad’s precise movements and steps, mind-blowing flips and tosses, and energetic presentation amazed the audience. It was mainly their overall performance that earned them the 1st place, securing for them 15,000 pesos worth of prize. This is now the 3rd championship title earned by CKSC in the same event. The other two championship titles were from the 2007 and 2009 Cheerdance Competition.
Pedro Guevarra Memorial National Highschool Dominates MCL Cup 2010’s Math Wizard
Pedro Guevarra Memorial National Highschool (PGMNHS) has finally emerged victorious by outwitting more than twenty (20) other schools during the 2nd MCL Cup 2010 event last November 12, Friday. They were in 2nd place in last year’s cup under the same event. Now earning the 1st place award in the Math Wizards challenge at the Francisco Balagtas Auditorium, this would be PGMNHS’s 1st award in this year’s cup.
Sisters of Mary- Girlstown Outwits other Brain Master Challengers
The Sister’s of Mary School- Girlstown (SOM) outwitted more than twenty other schools during MCL Cup 2010’s Brain Master challenge last November 11 at the Francisco Balagtas Auditorium. This is SOM’s second win, having just bagged the second place in MCL Cup’s Battle of the Bands contest last Nov. 9.
hristian School International (CSI) rocked the stage and won in one of the events of MCL Cup 2010 last November 9 – the Battle of the Bands. The 1st-runner up for the event was The Sisters of Mary School (Girls Town) band; 2nd runner-up was the Los Banos National High School band. Other bands/schools that were present were: St. Mary’s Academy of Nagcarlan, Lakeshore Educational Institution, Binan Faith Christian School, Rizal Institute Canlubang Foundation, Sta. Rosa Science and Technology High School, Mary Help of Christians School, and the Mater Ecclesiae School.
Through the Association of Chemical Engineering Students – Malayan Colleges Laguna, 20 participants from MCL, along with Engr. Marlon Martinez and Prof. Angelo De Jesus, joined the annual Leadership Training and Seminar organized by the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers- Junior Chapter Luzon and hosted by Saint Louis University.
Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) Marine Engineering student Francis Daelo proved that he has what it takes to compete in a nationwide contest such as the 2010 Philippine - Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC). Daelo was among the three students who were awarded the Certificate of High Distinction for the Senior (Year 12) Division, which means he was among the top two percent of the hundreds of exam takers from various schools all over the Philippines. The other student-awardees in his division were from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and the Sacred Heart School of Jesuit
Twenty-four restless Multimedia Arts (MMA) students of MCL together with their professors and dean braved the streets of Metro Manila to witness the screening of the best animation shorts of the College of St. Benilde School of Design and Arts (CSB SDA). The event, dubbed as “Anifest 2010,” was held at the very own cinema of CSB SDA last October 21.
MCL Hosts a Campus Journalism Workshop
Last September 16 and 17, Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) hosted a Campus Journalism Workshop for the student-journalists of Southville-1 Elementary School, Cabuyao, Laguna. Southville-1 is an adopted school of MCL since 2007. The workshop was a joint project of the Community Service and Relations Office (CSRO), College of Arts and Science (CAS) and the Multimedia Communication Arts Society (MULTICA). Faculty members from MCL’s College of Arts and Science, and the College of Information Technology served as speakers for the sessions on writing, cartooning, photojournalism, and layouting – the basic tasks of each publication.
BS Industrial Engineering students of Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) won the friendship game with Lyceum of the Philippines- Laguna (LPU) last September 9, 2010 at the LPU- Laguna gymnasium.
The Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers (PIIE) Student Chapter held the CALABARZON Region Chapter Assembly and election last August 20, 2010 at Colegio San Juan de Letran- Calamba.
The Community Service and Relations Office (CSRO) and the Community Leaders Circle (CLC), a recognized organization of volunteers for community service launched a key project last August 15, 2010 at Sitio Balagbag-Araw, in Canlubang, Calamba City. The volunteers led by its President Jester John Monana, and members distributed school supplies and rain coats for the elementary and day care students of the community.
Anyone with excellent communication skills and the guts to use them could easily be a journalist. However, it takes more than that to become a real journalist – one who doesn’t just report, but would also take responsibility for what he or she reports. This was one of the things I learned from attending the 5th Annual Conference of Journalism and Mass Communication Students of the Philippines last August 1, 2010. Held at the AFP Theater at Camp Aguinaldo, the conference was themed “Pursuit of Mass Media towards Responsible Broadcast Journalism”.
For any organization, establishing good relationship with every member can go a long way in effectively setting up a common goal and accomplishing individual tasks. With all the stress and pressure everyone is experiencing, it is best to grab a time to unwind and socialize.
As part of its advocacy on Sustainable Development, Malayan Colleges Laguna partners with The Philippine Star for a TREE PLANTING PROJECT last July 31, 2010 at the Caliraya Watershed, a protected area in Cavinti, Laguna managed by the National Power Corporation.
They say that some of the best memories in college come from the events and parties that make up your social calendar through the four or more years you spend on campus. Back when I was a freshman, I never really bothered going to the events hosted by the school.
I always had my reasons. Still, I can’t help but ask myself, had I missed out on what should have been one of the greatest memories of my college life?
A college student’s life at Malayan Colleges Laguna is a mixture of study, play and serve. While exploring the realm of learning with the aid of world-class facilities and top-caliber faculty members and industry professionals, MCL students find time to play and get involved with the activities of the different recognized student organizations whose objectives include creating a sense of balance in the student’s academic life and a break for extra-curricular activities and community service.
There’s something about being in a roomful of artists that displaces a non-creative person like me. This was how I first felt when I stepped into the art gallery at the 3rd floor of the Picasso Boutique Serviced Residences Building last June 26. I was invited by experimental film creator and MCL part-time professor Bryan Quesada to check out his exhibit together with fellow artists Eric Guazon and Marc San Valentin.
The Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers held their first General Assembly Party on July 24, 2010 at room 306. The activity’s purpose was to have a formal meeting with the 3rd and 4th year BSIE students.
“My dream is inevitable.” This is what second time top president’s lister Neory T. Mangaliman said in her response from the students during the recognition ceremonies held last July 23 at the Francisco Balagtas Auditorium. This conviction of Ms. Mangaliman contributed greatly to her getting the highest rank among the nearly 200 academic achievers for Academic Year 2009 – 2010, twice the number of dean’s and president’s listers from the previous year. These figures indicate the academic nurturance taking place within the grounds of Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL).
DOIT's Senior Developer, Ms. Ayra G. Panganiban, just recently received the "Best Thesis" award for the Graduate Level plus a corresponding cash prize during the May 27, 2010 commencement exercises of the Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Manila.
Last April 23, 2010, Malayan Colleges Laguna held its 2nd Commencement Exercises at the Francisco Balagtas Auditorium. A total of 10 graduates under the College of Information Technology received their certificates in Digital Arts and Design.

April 19, 2010, the Mapua Team led by Dr. Manuel C. Belino visited MCL to conduct tests on its entry to this year's Shell Eco-marathon to be held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
