‘October Rock’ staged to promote music, camaraderie among MCL students

Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) holds "October Rock" annually to showcase its students’ talent and promote their love for music.
Celebrating life through music.
Aside from inculcating values and knowledge that will make its students more competitive in the global arena when they graduate, Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) also supports and promotes the development of their artistic side through various activities.
On October 29, 2011, one such event was held at MCL. With an aim of promoting the students’ love for music, the school in Cabuyao, Laguna staged its annual “October Rock,” a concert featuring rock bands whose members are composed of MCL students.
The rock concert was open to the public.
The crowd was treated to a night filled with pure fun and rocking performances from 12 bands, namely Girls Over Us, Roux, Evenhanded, Gupit 25, Hibiscus, Ratos, Pseup Effective All, Xenildred, McFloat, Merry Mayhem, 5HE and Adios.
Last year’s “October Rock” had the most number of band performers ever since it began in 2007, according to Engr. Raymond B. Monterey, head of MCL’s Center for Student Activities and Discipline and director of the Office for Student Services.
It was no simple rock concert for all 12 performers had to audition first to be part of the event. Engr. Monterey said a total of 32 bands showed up during audition. From 32 bands, they were trimmed down to 12.
“Many of our students are band members. [The activity was] meant to showcase their talent and promote camaraderie among our students. We also wanted to give them a break from all the academic pressure,” he said.
“They’re really into it. We have so many talented students here in MCL,” he added.
Part of the profits from ticket sales will be used to finance the workshops and trainings of student council members.
