MCL tops Philippine Statistics Quiz

Two students from the Mapua-PTC-CMET made MCL proud by bagging the first and second places in the Philippine Statistics Quiz provincial level held last October 21, 2011, at San Pablo City. MCL finished ahead of powerhouse UPLB, which finished 3rd and 4th in a field of 20.
The two students – Nicetus Torres and Gener Miralles - were coached by Professor Casiano “Choy” Jaurigue, a Mathematics professor from the College of Arts and Science. Sir Choy said that he was “happy for the school and glad that the school is starting to get recognized in the region.”
The process of selecting the students to compete in this quiz bee was not easy. The students need to have a grade of 1.25 and above in their Math011 and those who attained the said grade took a qualifying exam. Four students stood out from the rest and they went on training. Since only two students can join the quiz bee, another qualifying exam was held and there, Torres and Millares were chosen to represent the school. Prof. Jaurigue said that the students were both very good that they need little coaching from him.
The next step for the team is to compete in the Regional level this November 17, 2011.
