News 2010

As part of its advocacy on Sustainable Development, Malayan Colleges Laguna partners with The Philippine Star for a TREE PLANTING PROJECT last July 31, 2010 at the Caliraya Watershed, a protected area in Cavinti, Laguna managed by the National Power Corporation.

With more than 150 volunteers composed of students, faculty members, administrators, and staff MCL planted over 1200 Mahogany and Narra seedlings donated by The STAR and some other generous partners.

Malayan Colleges Laguna is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mapua Institute of Technology, one of the premier technical schools in the country.

This tree planting activity was a priority project of the Community Service and Relations Office. Prof. James Ronald O. Mesina, director of the CSRO notes that “the tree planting activity was very timely since the region was just slammed by typhoon ‘Basyang’. This project is a part of MCL’s share in the promotion of environmental literacy and activism to help us cope with the challenges of climate change and other environmental problems”.
